December 2009 Committee Meeting

In attendance: Michael B, Nancy, Leann, Willie, Cami, Sarah W, Leisa, Connie, Bill, Mike W, Alicia, Kenny, Dee.

 

Treasurers report was given. 

 

Discussion for next years Christmas Parade.  Will have a flatbed and/or firetruck for boys to ride on.  Have to look into seeing how to do next year due to other Packs and Troops walking with us with celebrating the 100 years of Scouting.

 

Got approval to get the Year of Celebration base emblem.  Will get on 12/17.

 

Blue and Gold will be held on Feb. 7, if Upper Legion building is available.  Invitations will be sent out so local officals and businesses can join us in celebrating the 100 years of Scouting.  This will also be the time to hold our annual FOS presentation.  Alicia is still looking in on meat prices and the dens will be providing the sides. 

 

Pinewood Derby date is still being determined. 

 

Scout Christmas party to be held on December 17 @ Angelo's Pizza @ 6 pm

BALOO Training

 

Mike stated a uniform is required for any leaders attending. Need to register by 2-13 and cost is $7 after that $14. Will be held at USI from 7-4:30. Mike will attend and Sarah W may. Need to ask parents if anyone would like to attend. Badger and Christine have already completed.

 

OWL Training

 

Expected to be completed sometime in May. Will need someone to attend. Badger and Christine have already attended.

 

Treasury balance discussed

 

Recharter update

 

Alicia has recharter complete and only needs to be paid for. The total cost was $466.00. Charter included Boy's Life subscription for each boy. Need to collect dues at pack meeting. Have collected for Dalton and Eli.

 

Blue and Gold Banquet

 

Will not schedule for 2-21 due to BALOO training. Sarah F to reserve main building at Legion and contact Mr Cameron on if Legion will be able to cater and cost. Will have the Father and Son cake bake again this year. Nancy will contact Christine about decorations from last year. Joanna will take care of blue and gold balloons.

 

Rank advancement for all scouts will more than likely not be complete by Blue and Gold.

 

Pine Wood Derby

 

Brian is making derby car stand kits for each scout. Maybe we will use this as our pack activity during our pack meeting. Need to purchase derby car kits and hand out. Will create page on website for derby and list rules. Wisemans have made a test car to use when setting up the track.

 

Sarah F to reserve Son's Building for 3-14 or 3-21. Also contact Mr King to see if he is able to act as our Race Marshall. Badger will be our inspector.

 

Also need to obtain trophies for 1st-3rd places, each scout participating will receive patch and ribbon. Will also have some fun awards with ribbons and certificates.

 

Awards Presentation

 

Sarah W suggested having parents present scouts with awards earned. All agreed will we try this for our next pack meeting.

 

Planning Meeting

 

Agreed a planning meeting is needed to begin planning spring and summer activities and meetings. Will include in next month's committee meeting.

 

Photo Posting Permission Slips

 

Have collected bulk of permission slips for posting photos online and in paper. Need to collect from anyone that we are missing. (All wolves have been collected, only need Spencer's for Webelos, and will obtain Tiger's at pack meeting)

 

Scout Fun Day and Roundtable

 

Would like to have fun day and round up in the spring. Towards the end of the school year. Suggested that fliers list website and e-mail for contact in addition to a phone number. Possibly have prizes for any scouts who recruit another boy to attend the roundup. Also have a cook out and games.

 

Good Turn Activities

 

Need to add the 2008 Polar Bear Plunge volunteer time to Good Turn site.

 

We will collect coats and jackets the month of January to donate to Boulware Center in Owensboro. Will send e-mail to pack to bring to pack meeting. Sarah F will deliver to center.

 

Polar Bear Plunge is in February, Sarah F to confirm date and send to everyone.

 

Fill It up Patches

 

Our fill it up patches for the popcorn sale are at Eycamp. Badger will pick up on 1-06 and give out at the pack meeting. We have several extra popcorn patches, need to make sure everyone rcd theirs.

•Blue and Gold Banquet - will be held on 2/28 @ 1 in the main building at the Legion. Mike to confirm the building has been reserved. We will have a Bug Theme. Mr King will ask the Legion officers to attend. Have scheduled FOS presentation to be held with Ed

•Boy Scout and Cub Scout Fundraiser Dinner - will be on 3/8. Sarah has ordered tickets (70 adults and 20 kids). Pat is to have tickets to Alicia

•Webelos - Spencer and Bryce only have fitness requirements remaining. Discussed having OA complete the Arrow of Light Ceremony once scouts earn. The cost is $25 donation, Mr King will pay part of cost as donation to pack. Scouts have not decided which troop they will enter. Webelos are planning an outing to Mammouth Caves, will include Elijah since will be after school ends and he will be a 1st year Webelo. Badger to obtain price estimate and agreed pack will pay cost for scouts.

•Pine Wood Derby - Will have on 3/14. Mike spoke with someone and we can provide results for district that day even though information for Field Day says due by 3/13. Mike will e-mail rsults to him. Will have our derby at 1 in the Son's Building. Will have snack foods, drinks, etc

•Advancement - Tigers - Nolan and Jayce have not completed rank, Wolves - Eli, Ethan, and Logan working toward rank, Nancy to check to Elijah's progress, and Webelos - Spencer and Bryce working toward rank.

•Treasury Balance - $2882.96, Eyecamp - $11.23.. Still have scouts to collect recharter from, any remaining leaders need to be working to collect or determine if the scout needs assistance to pay

•Quality Unit Award - Will order patches for 15 scouts and will give out at Blue and Gold. Alicia to order

•Training - Mike to attend BALOO

•Mike suggested changing meeting nights to Friday. Webelos are holding den meetings on Tuesdays, Wolves, Thursdays, and Tigers Thursdays.

•Community service plans - can food drive with library

•NEXT MEETING - 3-2

• Pine Wood Derby - will bring scale to pack meeting to allow race cars to be weighed to ensure cars are not over maximum weight requirements.

•Scouting for Food - The Wolves are working with the Spencer County Libraries to collect food to donate to the Christian Resource Center. We will pick up collections from the library at the Wolf Den Meeting on 3-26

•Space Derby - Jeff has volunteered to help scouts build rockets. Will have Space Derby in coming months. Will discuss further at next meeting.

•Conservation and Leave No Trace Projects - need to determine which projects we will complete in upcoming months. Wolves need to complete a conservation project to earn their Conservation Award.

•Treasury balance - $2101.61

•Planning meeting - will begin at next Committee Meeting. Need to plan summer pack program, camp outs, etc

•Training - Marie needs to complete most of training. Mike is attending BALOO training, Badger has completed all online training courses and will attend Wood Badge. All leaders have completed basics except Marie

•Sarah to check with Randy about Badger volunteering at Day Camp to work with Bears on knots.

•Badger will stay with Webelos for another year. Nancy will not stay once son moves to Troop. Will need to begin looking for Treasurer, possibly Melanie or Laura..

•Alica has called St Bernards to see if they can meet with students

•Alicia and Mike are contacting churches to include roundup information in bulletins.

Insignia Guide Changes

•Sarah will get new guide with updates

•One change is that it states patches must be affixed to uniform.

Treasury balance = $1869.66

 

Advancement status = Bears - Elijah almost done. Wolves - Hunter and Eli working towards their rank, they may do go past end of May.

 

National den awards = all dens except Bear qualify, Leaders to turn forms into Sarah F. Tigers and Wolves have been turned in

 

Leaders needed

•Sarah F contacted Randy and he should have fliers made up. Alicia will pick up from him. These should be placed around town.

•Community Bulletin has been placed in paper. Cost to run add is about $17.

•Alicia has made arrangements to have Journal Democrat attend graduation. May do article and have photos in paper

Day Camp

•We have 13 scouts and 7 parents attending

•Alicia, Sarah W, and Badger will be staff. Badger with knot activity, Alicia and Sarah in Tot Lot

May meeting plans

•Pack meeting - Fun Day and round up. Alicia has fliers, food, and games. Wolves maybe set up obstacle course. Sarah did add Round Up to Community Calendar and JD online. Alicia will also hang fliers in town.

•Graduation/Advancement - May 28 - awards, new books, and each leader to plan a ceremony. Alilcia will pick up new books after Roundup.

June Meeting plans

•Day camp - June 2-5, no den meetings this week

•Pack meeting - plan activity. Possible Jeff for ambulance and first aid, State trooper for internet safety and crime prevention, Sherry for forensics. Mike to check with Jeff, Sarah F with state trooper, and Nancy with Sherry.

July Meeting plans

•Rocket/space derby - Mike said will provide launch pad if we need one. Nancy to check with Christine to see if we can use hers. Pack to purchase rockets and build in meetings.

August meeting plans

•Maybe a field day and rain gutter regatta. Possibly invite other packs to attend. Mike said rain gutters are in building at Legion.

Other

•Den leaders to discuss changing meeting days with parents. Webelos have already discussed and prefer Tuesdays.

•Ideal Year of Scouting meeting - Badgers, Wisemans, and Sarah F plan to attend

•Need someone to take trailer from Legion with cans to be recycled. Ask parents for volunteer.

•Next meeting June 8

Summertime Pack Award Plans

•July activity - Planning rocket launch for July pack meeting. Jeff M is unable to attend meeting, agreed to move launch date back. Sarah F to follow up with Jeff to determine launch date.

•August activity - Picnic/cook out with fun day. Look at belt loops the scouts can earn.

Roundup plans

•School starts August 12, have received approval from Rockport Elementary to have table during Kids Fest on August 5 for reicruiting.

•Alicia and Mike to work.

Training Needs

•BALOO & Basic Leader - Kenny and Bill need to complete. Next session is August 15, in Jasper at VU. Cost is $7 for BALOO and $2 for Basic Leader.

•Youth Protection - Alicia stated she can complete since U/C for all leaders.

•Alicia to obtain DVD for This is Scouting video since Bill and Kenny do not have internet access.

Popcorn

•Alicia and LeeAnn will be the Popcorn Kernals

•They will attend as well as Mike Popcorn Training on July 20

•Planning a Popcorn Kickoff meeting on September 24

New Leaders and Scout Introductions

•Alicia to introduce new leaders and scouts at next pack meeting.

Camping plans

•Would like to camp before school starts at either: Legion, Oakridge, Lincoln, or Fulda

•October campout at Lake Rudolph - Alicia and Mike to look into reservations

In attendance: Alicia, Mike, Nancy, Badger, Bill, LeeAnn.

Michael Badger announced that he is now the Pack Charter Rep. Alicia was renamed Committee Chair, Michael is taking over Cub Master and Lee Ann will become a Den Leader.

 

It was discussed of having a Pack Fall Field Day to see if we can recruit new boys.

 

The theme for the float in the Christmas Parade will be "100 years of Scouting". Alicia will talk with Roger to make sure we can use his semi and trailor.

 

Mike will call Gary W. and see if and when we can have someone come down to the legion to train our new leaders. Also Mike and Bill plan on attending OLS / OWL on Oct. 2 - 4 with the pack to pay for the training.

 

Camping is Oct. 23 - 25 @ Lincoln State Park. Check in @ 2pm. Maps will be printed and handed out at the Oct. Pack meeting.

 

Cub Scout Fall Field Day is Oct. 17th @ 8:30 @ OBSR this will be free to new scouts.

 

Popcorn Kick off for the pack will be Sept. 24. This is a "Pack" meeting without the meeting. Basically a fun time for the boys to learn more about popcorn.

 

The Pack website will remain for another year.
